Ron (Papa) started learning the “Lost Wax Casting” process through research reading and experimentation circa 1998. In 2001 he decided to cast 30 Medallions to be given to team member as a reminder of their commitment to the team effort (ICE Project). He thought it would be a rather straight forward endeavor, only to gain a new respect for the Jewelry Trades Men and Women who have spent lifetimes in their Art / Craft / Vocation / Avocation.
The journey of learning has taken many twists and turns and has resulted in Ron outfitting his own Lab / Shop. Ron was tutored in the art / technology of Casting Precious Metals by Robert Tapscott in Ft. Worth Texas and will never be able to repay the mentoring investment.
Ron then went on to become proficient in mold making using all of the standard materials. Not satisfied with the tried and true methods (stagnant technology) Ron extended his research and knowledge in the area of Stero Lith and Laser Engraved models which could then be utilized to make Masters, and then turned into Molds utilizing only the finest in Rubber and RTV products. Ron has produced several hundred molds over the years, primarily of items of interest to his family and friends.
Another significant event was being introduced to a retired jeweler who had closed his business after a robbery and stored his equipment. The entire inventory (primarily equipment and molds) was purchased. Among the purchased items were a plethora of vulcanized rubber molds. Since Ron’s primary interest was in the equipment, the molds were again put into storage except for a few that were of interest to his clients. This purchase rounded out the Lab / Shop which continues to be one of the most well equipped in the area.
Ron has made custom molds and injected the waxes for dozens of individuals and clients in the Dallas— Ft Worth Metroplex, and is now embarking on the next part of the journey. Ron and Barb (Grandma) have now sorted through all of the molds in their possession and started to catalog, photograph, and make additions to the collection. Thus evolved the idea to share expertise and products with a larger more diverse and geographically dispersed audience. This Website is one of the first steps to accomplishing that goal.
Grandma spent weeks coming up with just the right name for the business — Divine Waxes. Yes we are committed Christians and that certainly influenced our thinking.
I have rambled on far too long. Suffice to say, we hope you will consider us when you have a need for any services that make up this wonderful technology referred to as “Lost Wax Casting” |
